Description
This colorful male ruby throated hummingbird was one of a group of a half dozen or so birds that frequented our feeders back in Maryland. We had a tomato plant in a large pot on the corner of our deck, near the feeder, and this little guy would sit on the tomato cage surrounding the plant, standing guard over *his* feeder. Woe betide any intruder that attempted to use the feeder while he was around. You'll note that I managed to catch him in a moment when he was sticking out his tongue, which makes this image one of my all-time favorites.
