Description
In July and August here in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley our Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds are constantly on our feeders, fattening up for their Autumn flight south. It takes a very fast shutter to capture them clearly in flight but every so many shots an in-flight image really pops. This is one of those images, a crop of a larger image captured at moderate distance with my Canon R6 mirrorless with Canon EFS 70-200 zoom and Canon EF-to-R adapter. This shot was captured at 1/1000 sec shutter speed, ISO 800, at full zoom. In post-processing, I bumped up the exposure and cropped to a square format but otherwise had to do very little editing to produce this in-flight portrait.

I love sitting on my porch and praying I don't get stabbed in the head by one! Beautiful image!

Thanks April! Love watching them zipping here and there, and when they’re sparring they can and do come very very close at times…witness the couple of head-on shots in my gallery! ;)
