It's mid-August in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and our resident ruby-throated hummingbirds are eagerly feeding in prep for their coming migration. We've watched them flit from flower to flower, be it zinnias, butterfly bush, cosmos, coneflowers, or our brilliant red Lord Baltimore Hibiscus. This stop-action in-flight image is a composite that recreates a scene we witnessed a few evenings ago while we were sitting outdoors. A female hummer noisily made her way from bloom to bloom (and there were a *lot* of blooms) before finally settling on a feeder and scolding us as she ate.
