Description
This little hummingbird was captured in flight at a distance while headed towards one of our feeders here in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The subject is a juvenile Ruby-Throated Hummingbird which had not yet developed the white chin and chest feathers with spots of black nor the characteristic luminous green on its head and back. This is a very small image, cropped from a larger at-a-distance shot with a hand-held Canon R6 mirrorless camera with EFS70-200 zoom and EF adaptor so is offered only as a square-format print. A very fast shutter allowed this stop-action and rendered a surprisingly clear image given the distance from the subject and how doggoned quickly these little creatures can move.
