Description
Early last Spring two neighbors and I went down Virginia's Skyline Drive to climb to the top of Stony Man, one of the more prominent accessible peaks in the central district of the Drive. The path to the peak is accessed from a parking area at the entrance to the Skyland Wayside. After a vigorous uphill hike of about 3/4 mile we reached the peak and enjoyed this view of the Shenandoah National Park (a.k.a. SNP) to the south from the second of two rocky outcroppings that served as overlooks. Since it was early in the season there was little green except for patches of evergreen here and there, but reds and oranges of emerging spring leaves gave color to a great deal of the landscape.
